Austria to Win | 1.95 | 1.96 |
*Odds are subject to change
The final round of 16 fixtures at Euro 2024 sees Austria take on Türkiye. The winner will face the victor of the match between Romania and Netherlands, who face each other in Tuesday’s earlier kick-off. A place in the quarter-finals would represent a huge achievement for either of these nations. For Austria, it would be the furthest they have ever gone in the competition in the nation’s history.
Turkyie have made it to the semi-finals before but that was back in 2008. Since then they have not progressed past the group stages. So, their involvement in this match is already a sign of progress. But they will be hoping it is not the end of their Euro 2024 journey. Vincenzo Montella’s men are the underdogs for this clash but their young and brave squad are unlikely to mind this one bit.
- Location: Leipzig
- Stadium: Leipzig Stadium (Red Bull Arena)
- Date: 2 July 2024
- Kick-off Time: 21:00 CEST (20:00 BST)
- Referee: Artur Soares Dias (POR)
- VAR: Tiago Martins (POR)
Austria Team News
Patrick Wimmer, who started for Austria in the win over the Netherlands, will miss this game through suspension. The winger is the only Austrian to have collected two yellow cards so far in this tournament, but he may not end up being the only one. Eight of Wimmer’s teammates have collected one yellow card and will miss the quarter-final should they pick up another, should Austria make it there.
There are no other absentees for Das Team, but Ralf Rangnick has plenty of decisions to make. Konrad Laimer or Christoph Baumgartner could replace the missing Wimmer. The job of leading the line, meanwhile, could fall to Marko Arnautovic or Michael Gregoritsch.
Türkiye Team News
Türkiye may have secured all three points during their hot-tempered win over Czechia, but it came at a fairly hefty price. Influential captain Hakan ?alhano?lu and regular centre-back Samet Akaydin collected their second yellow card of the tournament that game, meaning they will miss this clash through suspension.
It is not all bad news for Vincenzo Montella, though. First-choice goalkeeper Mert Günok was spotted back in training on Sunday, missing the previous session as a precaution. Additionally, Abdulkerim Bardakc? has served his suspension, meaning he can slot in for Akaydin at the back.Austria vs Türkiye H2H Record and Key Numbers
Türkiye lost their first seven meetings with Austria without scoring a single goal, but the power balance has shifted in more recent clashes. Looking across their last nine matches, Türkiye has won six and lost just twice, although they were utterly dominated in the most recent of those defeats.
Date | Result | Competition |
06 Mar 2024 | Austria 6-1 Türkiye | International Friendly |
29 Mar 2016 | Austria 1-2 Türkiye | International Friendly |
15 Aug 2012 | Austria 2-0 Türkiye | International Friendly |
06 Sep 2011 | Austria 0-0 Türkiye | UEFA European Championship – Qualifying |
29 Mar 2011 | Türkiye 2-0 Austria | UEFA European Championship – Qualifying |
The recent 6-1 loss to Austria is one of Türkiye’s four defeats in their last seven matches. Austria, on the other hand, has only lost four games in their last 21, having made great strides under Rangnick. More concerning for Türkiye is the fact Austria has won eight of their last 10, the two exceptions being competitive encounters with France and Switzerland.
Possible Lineups
- Austria (4-2-3-1): Pentz – Posch, Danso, Lienhart, Mwene – Seiwald, Grillitsch – Laimer, Baumgartner, Sabitzer – Gregoritsch
- Türkiye (4-2-3-1): Günok – Müldür, Demiral, Bardakc?, Kad?o?lu – Yüksek, Ayhan – Güler, K?k?ü, Y?ld?z – Y?lmaz

My Prediction
Austria are trading at around even money to win this match in normal time, which is extremely good value. We are surprised to see the odds this large as Rangnick’s side have been one of the teams of the tournament so far, incredibly well organised and full of energy. Türkiye are not without quality but they are missing two key players and have done little to suggest they can keep a side as good as Austria at bay.
