We've got a big top of the table clash in League Two on Saturday as 5th placed Crewe host 7th placed AFC Wimbledon. Both sides are in the playoffs, for now, while Crewe are outsiders to get involved in the automatic promotion places, so there's a massive three points on offer in this one.
Crewe Form GuideJust when Crewe were throwing down their marker for the top three, they've hit a real poor patch of form, and put that in doubt. They are in 5th as we head into the weekend, three points off Wrexham in 3rd. But they arrive losing three of their last four games, and the only win they have picked up was a narrow 1-0 success over Sutton, who are at the bottom of the league.
They lost 3-1 away at MK Dons, another promotion chasing side last weekend, to give Crewe another blow. Other losses have been against sides who are lower down the table, they lost 2-0 away at Doncaster and 3-2 at home to Morecambe, they look like a side desperate for things to turn around, and a spark to get them going again.
AFC Wimbledon Form GuideIn 7th with 57 points, clinging onto the final playoff spot as we head into the weekend, AFC Wimbledon have a whole host of teams chasing them down. Three are behind them on 56 points, so one back, another team is on 55 and one is on 54, this is as close as I have ever seen a playoff race in this league.
They have to bounce back from a defeat last weekend, they lost 2-0 at home to Newport and that was a disappointing afternoon for all. But before that, it was much better, three wins and one draw from four games, a run which gave them control of the 7th spot.
Match PredictionBoth sides are eyeing promotion to League One and know how important three points will be for their push. I am backing AFC Wimbledon to come out on top here. They're in good form, minus last weekend, and Crewe are showing signs of crumbling at exactly the wrong moment, so I am with the away team.
