We’ve arrived at the knockout stage of UEFA Euro 2024 as sixteen nations battle it out to be crowned the kings of Europe. There are plenty of fascinating ties to dissect in the days that lie ahead, and we’re interested to see which teams show up and which teams fade away. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming encounter between Austria and Turkey.
Austria Form GuideAustria are starting to emerge as real dark horses in this tournament and, in the eyes of many, contenders to go on and win the whole thing. That may sound a bit ‘out there’ for some but when you take a look at how they’ve played thus far, it shouldn’t be all too surprising. They have a system that’s working, and we’re excited to see just how far they can take this project.
Austria felt unlucky to walk away from their game with France as 1-0 losers, but in their next outing, they looked far more composed in front of goal as they registered a big 3-1 victory. Then, against the Netherlands, they stunned many by pulling off a really impressive 3-2 win.
Turkey Form GuideTurkey have brought the most passionate fans in world football with them to Germany and while that hasn’t always resulted in overall success in their fixtures, we do believe they’ve got enough in the tank to cause problems for most of the remaining teams. It’s all about momentum at this point in the tournament, and if they can edge through to the quarters, they could be on to something special.
Turkey struggled early on against Georgia but they fought their way back to full form and, eventually, pulled off a nice 3-1 win. From there, though, they were beaten comfortably by Portugal in a 3-0 loss, before scoring late on to pick up a really valuable 2-1 win over Czech Republic.
Match PredictionAustria are probably the stronger of the two sides in this encounter but in terms of how the game itself will play out, we think Turkey are going to be really difficult to break down in what is their biggest game in many, many years. In terms of an actual prediction, we’re going to shoot for a draw in 90 minutes - and from there, it’s anyone’s guess.
