On Sunday evening, Bochum host German champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion as the visitors look to avoid being sucked into the Bundesliga’s bottom three.
Back-to-back wins have improved the situationBochum's 4-3 win at Union Berlin last time out was their second straight victory in the Bundesliga, following a 3-2 home win over Hoffenheim in their previous league outing.
The victories mean that with two rounds of Bundesliga games remaining, they can no longer suffer automatic relegation from the German top flight. However, they are only four points clear of the relegation play-off spot.
Their recent Bundesliga games have not been lacking in goals, though, with over 2.5 goals scored in eight of their previous 11 outings.
Bochum are unbeaten in their previous three home matches, but the win over Hoffenheim in their last home match ended a four-game winless run on home soil in the Bundesliga.
Their poor defensive record on home soil in the Bundesliga has hampered their chances of picking up wins, as they have conceded at least two goals in five of their last six matches.
Bayer still unbeaten after a close shave against RomaDie Werkself preserved their unbeaten run this season last time out, as a Josip Stanisic goal deep into stoppage-time earned Bayer a 2-2 draw against Roma in the Europa League semi-final second leg.
The draw saw Xabi Alonso’s team record a 4-2 aggregate victory to book their place in the final of the competition. The result means that Leverkusen are unbeaten in 49 games in all competitions.
The visitors have already claimed the Bundesliga title, but their form has not really dipped, as they have won 11 of their last 13 games in the German top flight.
Bayer has also been prolific in the Bundesliga lately, scoring at least two goals in 11 of their last 13 matches.
What am I backing? The obvious bet would be to back the away win. However, instead, I am going to back over 2.5 goals scored, as both teams have been involved in high-scoring games, and I expect this one to follow suit.
