We saw two upsets in the opening games from Group E at Euro 2024, a positive for Romania and a negative for Belgium. The Romanians won 3-0 against Ukraine, while Belgium lost 1-0 against Slovakia. Both have a big chance here to get points, a win would put Romania in a position to win the group, while Belgium have to get something, otherwise they could be facing an early exit.
Belgium Form GuideIt was an incredibly disappointing day on Monday for Belgium, losing 1-0 to Slovakia. I don't think they were that good, they offered a couple of small moments of promise, but overall, it wasn't a complete performance. They had two goals ruled out by VAR, so can count themselves unlucky, but ultimately, for me, they just need to play a lot better, especially defensively, which did look like a weak point before the tournament.
They know they need to take something here, and ideally it has to be a win. Kevin de Bruyne, Jeremy Doku and Romelu Lukaku did link up well in small periods, but we need that at regular intervals, every time Belgium have the ball. Those are three top players, who can create and score past any side in the world, they need to deliver when their country needs them.
Romania Form GuideI came into the tournament with Romania as a potential dark horse, and backed them for success in the opening game. I like them here too, I think they play without fear, and when they're on the ball, they look clinical and also very quick at breaking. That can cause Belgium problems, and Romania will have also seen how Belgium struggled when they were pressed by Slovakia on Monday.
It was a great performance on the opening day, and a draw here would suit Romania just fine, with one game to go they would be in a great position to qualify for the next phase, and potentially even win the group. I hope that doesn't stop them from attacking though, and hope they play their usual game here.
Match PredictionI think this will be a fascinating clash, and once again, I am more than happy to take a chance on Romania. However, this time, it's the double chance market for me, as I think they'll take a draw, if they have one towards the end of the game. Romania on the double chance market is my pick.
