We've got some key games in League One on Tuesday night, plenty of action and in this one, we see Bolton taking to the field, currently third and in the automatic promotion race, with everything to play for. They were beaten by a rival on Saturday, and face another away from home, this time with Wigan being the team to try and halt their charge.
Wigan Form GuideHad Wigan not faced a points deduction this season, they would have spent most of it in the top half of the table, showing the kind of quality we're talking about here. They've picked up some good results, but are 13th with 41 points, a little more consistency would have seen them be further up the table too, another issue they've had.
A draw at the weekend at home to Cheltenham put another point on the board for Wigan, a game they will have been disappointed to not win, but Cheltenham are going along ok at the moment. They won away from home 1-0 at Shrewsbury before that, and there is a fair argument to be made that Wigan are slightly better away than at home.
Bolton Form GuideHad Bolton won at the weekend, they would have been in second place, an automatic promotion spot but it is fair to say the day was a disaster for them. They went away to Blackpool with high hopes, but lost 4-1, and had a player sent off, so Ricardo Santos will miss this game. It came at the end of what has been an edgy run, Bolton have still been winning, but haven't been playing anywhere near as good as they can, I think they come here with plenty of pressure on their shoulders.
To emphasise that, Bolton have played six games in February before this one, winning two, drawing three and losing once. Yes, one loss is good, but they can't afford too many draws, when you see how competitive the race is. This is a big game, ahead of a big couple of weeks coming up, Bolton need to bounce back from Saturday here.
Match PredictionBut I don't think they will bounce back. I think the odds on offer for a Wigan win here are great, they're a good side on their day, and if they perform to the level they can, I think they are good enough to cause Bolton all sorts of troubles and pile further pressure on them, I'll take a Wigan win here.
