On Monday afternoon, Brazil will be looking to make it two wins out of two in Group G of the World Cup as they face Switzerland in gameweek two of the competition.
Brazil form guideThe Selecao kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 2-0 win over Serbia, courtesy of a brace from Tottenham forward Richarlison.
The victory continued an impressive recent run of form for Tite’s team, as they have now recorded eight straight wins while scoring at least two goals in seven of the victories. At the other end of the pitch, they have also kept clean sheets in three of their last four games.
If Brazil records another victory in this clash, then the World Cup favourites will book their place in the competition's knockout stages. Their recent history at World Cups and form suggests that the Selecao will win this game, as they have also won four of their last five matches in the competition.
Switzerland form guideMurat Yakin’s team recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Cameroon in their World Cup opener, with Cameroon-born Breel Embolo scoring the only goal of the game. The victory was Switzerland’s fourth in their last five outings. Just like Brazil, if they record a win in this clash, they will seal their spot in the competition's knockout stages.
They have been hard to beat of late in the World Cup, as Switzerland has lost just one of their last seven games in the competition. However, on the flip side, they have also won just two of their previous six matches at the World Cup.
Latest team newsBrazil suffered a possibly significant injury blow against Serbia, with star man Neymar injured. The PSG man could miss the rest of the group stage. Manchester United’s Antony is likely to deputise. Full-back Danilo will also miss out, with veteran Dani Alves likely filling his position.
Switzerland may name an unchanged starting line-up. Their only injury doubt is midfielder Renato Steffen who missed the opener through a muscle problem.
What am I backing? This game won’t be easy for Brazil. However, I am backing Tite’s team to record a narrow win to book their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
