We’ve finally arrived at the final week of fixtures in this season’s English Premier League. There are still a handful of things left to be resolved between now and Sunday, and it’ll be fascinating to see who is left celebrating when the dust finally settles and we head into what is bound to be a busy summer. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the fascinating clash between Brentford and Newcastle United.
Brentford Form GuideIt’s been a below average season for Brentford and while survival is a good sign of the stability they’ve built up for themselves, you also have to wonder if they’ll be disappointed by their inability to really kick on. They’ve got a great structure at the club and there are plenty of things to be excited about heading into the future, but there are certainly things to work on in the summer.
The Bees can finish in 15th if they’re able to get a better result than Everton but in reality, they’ll just be happy that they are 13 points clear of the relegation zone. Still, one point would take them to the magic 40 mark, which would be a bit more reassuring ahead of next season.
Newcastle Form GuideNewcastle United went through a really rocky period a few months back and at this point, their sole focus needs to be on securing European football for next season. There are bound to be questions surrounding Eddie Howe’s future once we arrive at the summer transfer window but in the next 90 minutes, the Magpies know that they have a whole lot of work to do.
If results go their way, Newcastle could wind up with a place in the top six - but if they don’t, they could fall as low as 8th. Eddie Howe will be well aware of the expectations that are on his shoulders, and if they do pick up a win, they’ll finish on 60 points which would be a solid figure.
Match PredictionThe Magpies just want to get over the finish line and secure European football once again, and we don’t expect to see Brentford giving them too many problems here. It may be a bit nervy towards the end of the game, but in terms of a prediction, we’re shooting for a Newcastle win.
