On Thursday afternoon, Canada and Morocco go head-to-head in their final match of Group F at the World Cup.
Canada form guideThe Maple Leaf's head into this last game bottom of the group and are already eliminated from the World Cup. John Herdman’s side kicked off their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat by Belgium before a somewhat more comprehensive 4-1 loss against Croatia last time out.
The game against Croatia at least produced one positive, as Alphonso Davies scored their first-ever goal at a World Cup. The downside to the game wasn’t just the defeat but the fact that they have now suffered defeat in all five of their games at the World Cup. Even getting a point from this game would be a step in the right direction for Canada.
Morocco form guideWalid Regragui’s side goes into this game in a strong position, as another victory would see them qualify for the last 16 of the competition. A draw would also be enough if Croatia beat Belgium or the Red Devils somehow hit form and hammer Luka Modric and co.
Either way, Morocco are in good shape heading into the final group game. The north African team's performance in Qatar may not come as a massive surprise, as they are now unbeaten in seven games. They have also been impressive in defence of late, as they haven’t conceded in six international matches.
Latest team newsCanada has a fully fit squad, so John Herdman has the luxury of rotating his squad. Morocco’s Abdessamad Ezzalzouli is ruled out ruled due to a hamstring injury.
What am I backing? This is a golden opportunity for Morocco to qualify for the last 16 of the World Cup for only the second time in history. I am backing Morocco to record a narrow win and book their place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
