While Liga MX and Major League Soccer are away, Leagues Cup will play. The very best from Mexico and the United States are battling it out in an electric tournament this summer as we attempt to determine who the best club in North America is. Today, we’ll be taking a look at a clash between Club America and St Louis City.
Club America Form GuideThey won the Apertura last season and finished 2nd in the Clausura, and nobody should really be too shocked by that anymore. Club America consistently produce some of the best football in the country, and also some of the best players. They should be seen as one of the clear favourites to go all the way here, regardless of how they view the competition’s prestige.
Club America haven’t exactly been the most active side as of late, with only two games to their name in Liga MX since the season got underway. In that time, they’ve won one and lost one, scoring four times with two goals conceded.
St Louis Form GuideThe West may not be as strong in the eyes of some as it has been in years gone by, but St Louis City are still an effective force of nature. It’s not unusual to see an expansion team rise to the top as quickly as they have, but they really do seem to have captured the imagination of the city. They are a well-balanced team, but there’s still lots of room to grow, which we see as a big positive.
St Louis would’ve, and probably should’ve, been feeling confident ahead of their Leagues Cup opener - but things didn’t pan out quite how they expected. They fell to a 2-1 defeat, meaning this is essentially a must win game for them.
Match PredictionAll of a sudden, there’s a certain pressure heading into this game for St Louis and they need to deal with that. They have to stay composed and can’t afford to get too far ahead of themselves, but that’s easier said than done. We do believe that when the full time whistle blows, Club America will have secured the win.
