On Saturday evening, high-flying La Liga outfit Girona will travel to face Elche in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey.
Elche form guideThe home team will welcome a break from Segunda action after three Liga games without a victory. Their attempts at a quick return to La Liga look to be failing, as Sebastian Beccacece’s team is currently in 12th place in the Spanish second-tier table.
Despite three of their last four games producing over 2.5 goals, seven of their previous ten competitive games have produced under 2.5 goals.
Elche has an excellent recent record in the Copa del Rey, as they have won seven of their previous nine games in the competition while suffering just one defeat in the run.
However, Elche have found home wins hard to find in the Copa lately, as they have won just one of their last eight matches on home soil over 90 minutes.
Girona form guideThe Catalan team’s dream La Liga campaign continued last time out, as Michel’s team grabbed a dramatic stoppage-time winner to defeat Atletico Madrid 4-3 last time out.
The victory means that only an inferior head-to-head record to leaders Real Madrid is currently stopping the visitors from topping La Liga.
The win over Diego Simeone’s team means that Girona is unbeaten in 13 games in all competitions, having recorded 11 wins and two draws.
The visitors have also been lethal in front of goal in recent months, scoring at least two goals in five of their last six competitive matches.
Girona doesn’t have a sparkling recent record in the Copa. However, their path to the last 32 was achieved with comfortable victories over San Roque Lepe and Orihuela.
What am I backing? With Girona in such good current form, it is hard to back anything other than a comfortable away victory.
