We’ve finally arrived at the final week of fixtures in this season’s English Premier League. There are still a handful of things left to be resolved between now and Sunday, and it’ll be fascinating to see who is left celebrating when the dust finally settles and we head into what is bound to be a busy summer. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the fascinating clash between Manchester United and Newcastle United.
Manchester United Form GuideManchester United fans, for the most part, are begging for the season to come to an end. While they have an FA Cup final to get excited about, the league campaign has been pretty poor once again. There are endless questions being asked about Erik ten Hag and as we look ahead to the summer, nobody really knows if he’s going to be in the job when August rolls around.
United played host to Arsenal over the weekend and while they may not have had a fully fit squad, they were certainly able to put in a decent performance. Alas, even though they looked solid enough, they couldn’t avoid a disappointing 1-0 defeat.
Newcastle Form GuideNewcastle United went through a really rocky period a few months back and at this point, their sole focus needs to be on securing European football for next season. There are bound to be questions surrounding Eddie Howe’s future once we arrive at the summer transfer window but in the next few games, the Magpies know that they have a whole lot of work to do.
Brighton and Newcastle are both technical and entertaining teams to watch when they want to be and last weekend, they combined to produce a game that we actually really enjoyed. Alas, neither could walk away with all three points, as the final result was a 1-1 draw.
Match PredictionWe know that both teams still have something to fight for when it comes to Europe but in equal measure, this feels like the kind of game that’s going to be quite tentative - especially in the final third. For that reason, we’re going to shoot for a prediction of under 2.5 goals scored in this one.
