We’re into the semi-finals of the Leagues Cup as four teams from across Major League Soccer and Liga MX remain in the race to win the trophy. We’ve already seen a whole lot of crazy things unfold across the last few weeks, and we expect that to continue as CF Monterrey prepare to collide with Nashville SC.
Monterrey Form GuideMonterrey were easily one of the best clubs in Mexican football last season and that much is obvious, given their performances in both the Apertura and Clausura. Unfortunately, they fell short at the semi-final stage, which is something few could’ve anticipated. This time around, they’re back, but they have a big point to prove when it comes to how much of their allure they’ve maintained.
Monterrey looked cool, calm and collected in the group stage with a 3-0 win over Salt Lake a 4-2 triumph over Seattle. They only edged past Portland 1-0 in the round of 32 and Tigres UNAL in the round of 16 by the same scoreline, before beating LAFC 3-2 in a great quarter-final.
Nashville Form GuideThey’ve only been playing in the league since back in 2020 but in that time, Nashville have made quite the impression. They’ve been able to piece together a nice fanbase and alongside that, a team the city can be proud of. They may not be the outright favourites to go all the way this year but given that they’re 4th in the Eastern Conference, they’re certainly in with a chance, if they can start to piece together some consistency again.
Nashville did well to beat Colorado 2-1 in their opener before surprisingly falling to a 4-3 defeat against Toluca just a few days later. They bounced back with penalty shootout wins over Cincinnati and Club America in the next few rounds, before battering Minnesota 5-0 in the quarters.
Match PredictionThe pride of Mexico goes up against a team that really does deserve more credit than they’ve been getting recently. We expect this one to be a tight encounter until one of the two sides pulls away in the second half, and with that being said, we’re going to back a Monterrey win.
