UEFA Euro 2024 will take place next summer and the road to qualifying for that tournament continues this week with the latest international break. As clubs across the continent hit the pause button on their domestic leagues, plenty of countries will be hoping to edge closer to the finals. Today, we’ll be taking a look at what should be a fun encounter between Greece and Netherlands.
Greece Form GuideEveryone remembers Greece for their famous triumph back at Euro 2004 and now, 20 years later, they seem ready and prepared to try and make another run to the big time. We don’t mean actually winning it, of course, because that would be an even bigger miracle than it was two decades ago, but qualifying is going to be a big target given that they haven’t managed it in their last two attempts.
The Greeks earned a win over the Irish before two defeats to France and the Netherlands. They rebounded, however, by defeating Gibraltar, and they went one further with a 2-0 win over Ireland again to knock them out of the qualifying race.
Netherlands Form GuideThe Dutch have forever been known as the bridesmaids of world football but on the European stage, they tend to be a little bit more consistent. The primary hope, moving forward, is that all of their changes behind the scenes won’t impact what they’re trying to accomplish on the pitch. After all, you could make a good argument that this is actually their best squad in years.
Netherlands beat Gibraltar back in March before suffering defeats to Croatia and Italy in the Nations League. They rebounded with wins over Greece and Ireland, but they couldn’t overcome France in a 2-1 defeat.
Match PredictionGreece are riding a nice wave of momentum right now and we do think they have the potential to cause problems for the visitors, but if we’re going to put money down on it, we’d say the fire power of the Netherlands will lead to them securing the win.
