Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come - UEFA Euro 2024 is upon us. The very best nations from across the continent of Europe will compete with one another for the right to be called champions. There are some great teams who are ready to lay it all on the line in the name of greatness, and we can’t wait to see it. Today, we’ll be taking a look at the upcoming clash between Turkey and Georgia.
Turkey Form GuideIn the last 16 World Cups, Turkey have only qualified for the final tournament once - finishing in third place. In the Euros, however, they tend to have a bit more luck, having qualified for three of the last four editions. They did only manage to reach the group stage in the last two but at the very least, there’s a clear direction for them as a squad, especially with one of the most intimidating fanbases in world football.
Turkey were part of a group that featured Croatia and Wales in qualifying, meaning qualification was anything but guaranteed. Alas, they really impressed throughout as they topped the group with just one defeat in eight games, showcasing just how far they’ve come in recent years.
Georgia Form GuideFor Georgia, everything that’s happening right now must feel like a dream. They’ve worked incredibly hard to finally qualify for a big tournament, and they’ve done it. Everything from this point forward will be a bonus but if they can reignite that determination and passion they showed in qualification, then who knows what they could achieve in the next few weeks.
Georgia finished in 4th place in Group A behind Spain, Scotland and Norway, winning two and drawing two of their eight games. They managed to qualify for the play-offs through the Nations League and there, they defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in the semis before overcoming Greece on penalties in the final to make history.
Match PredictionGeorgia are going to push Turkey all the way, especially given the pressure that’s on the latter to perform. Georgia are underdogs and they’re going to carry on as such, and while we do think they’ll put up a really solid effort, we’re still going to predict that this wil end in a Turkey win.
